"Sen. Obama will raise your taxes."

Some have claimed that Sen. Obama will enact “the largest tax increase since the Second World War.” Senator Obama would allow the Bush tax cuts for the top 1% to expire. That would be a tax increase only on those making more than $250,000 dollars a year. Obama has called for extensive middle class, and elderly, tax cuts. According to the Washington Post, that means that Sen. Obama will lower taxes on the vast majority of Americans.

Here you can find a chart explaining Senator Obama’s tax plan... see how it would affect you.

    Powell Endorses Obama

    Link

“Former Secretary of State Colin L. Powell endorsed Senator Barack Obama for president on Sunday morning, calling him a “transformational figure” who has reached out to all Americans with an inclusive campaign and displayed “a steadiness, an intellectual curiosity” and “a depth of knowledge” in his approach to the nation’s problems.

“The endorsement, on the NBC public-affairs program “Meet the Press,” was a major blow to Senator John McCain, who has been a good friend of Mr. Powell’s for decades. Mr. Powell, a Republican, has advised Mr. McCain in the past on foreign policy.

“Mr. Powell told Tom Brokaw, the host of “Meet the Press,” that he had been disturbed in recent weeks by the negative tone of Mr. McCain’s campaign, particularly its focus on Mr. Obama’s passing relationship with William Ayers, a 1960s radical and founder of the Weather Underground. The McCain campaign has sought to promote the idea that Mr. Obama is “palling around with terrorists,” in the words of Mr. McCain’s running mate, Governor Sarah Palin, because of Mr. Obama’s weak links to Mr. Ayers.

“Mr. McCain says that he’s a washed-out terrorist,” Mr. Powell said. “Well, then, why do we keep talking about him?”

“After the program’s taping, Mr. Powell told reporters that the thought of attacking Mr. Obama for Mr. Ayers was “over the top.”

“Mr. Powell, who was secretary of state in the first term of President Bush, also said that he was concerned about Mr. McCain’s selection of Ms. Palin as his running mate and had come to the conclusion that she was the wrong choice.

Powell also touched on the McCain campaigns not so subtle bigoted remarks against Muslims.  He cited the death of Kareem Rashad Sultan Khan.  He was a 20-year old corporal in the Army who died during Operation Iraqi freedom.

And in other news, 100,000 people came out to see Barack Obama in St. Louis. It was the largest domestic crowd ever to come out and see the candidate (that is until January 20th, I (rich) hope).  Also he raised around $150 million dollars in September from 632,000 NEW people. NEW people.

Well, Sec. Powell made up for the Iraq fiasco in a big way by endorsing Sen. Obama and criticizing Sen. McCain. I saw him on "Meet The Press" yesterday and he gave the most thoughtful case for his decision to cross party lines and support a Democrat.

Comedian D.L. Hughley to host CNN show

    D.L. Hughley starred in

(CNN) -- When news breaks, D.L. Hughley will be ready to mock it.

D.L. Hughley starred in "The Hughleys" and "The Original Kings of Comedy."

CNN announced Wednesday that it will premiere a new, "unconventional" weekend show hosted by comedian D.L. Hughley. "D.L. Hughley Breaks the News," as the show is currently titled, will feature Hughley's humorous take on the week's events.

It will also include interviews with newsmakers and reporters, according to the network. "D.L. Hughley Breaks the News" is scheduled to debut Saturday, October 25.

"I am very excited for the opportunity to work with the network that I have watched for a very long time, and that to a large extent, has shaped my comedic view," Hughley said in a press release. "CNN offers the perfect blend of news and information on a local, national and international level. What more can a comedian ask for?"

"D.L. is a news junkie who is bursting with things to say about what is going on in the world -- most of them funny, all of them thoughtful, none of them predictable," said Jon Klein, president of CNN/U.S. "When you watch as much news as our audience does, there comes a time you just want to stop and laugh -- and that time will be Saturday nights at 10 on CNN."

The show will resemble the late-night talk shows of Jay Leno and David Letterman more than Jon Stewart's "Daily Show," according to Hughley.

Hughley is known for his acting and his standup performances. The comedian spent four seasons on his own sitcom, "The Hughleys," and was one of the stars of Aaron "West Wing" Sorkin's series, "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip."

The performer was also one of the "Original Kings of Comedy," along with Bernie Mac, Steve Harvey and Cedric the Entertainer.

CNN and CNN.com are units of Time Warner.

I don't always like DL Hughley's comedic stye but I am very happy for him.

    Congrats DL!

    William Ayers: Funded by Republicans

The more the McCain campaign tries to tie Barack to William Ayers, the more ridiculous they look.  But hey-- at least the economy is doing well!

After his stupid, youthful days with the Weather Underground organization, William Ayers became a normal, productive member of society.  After recieving his PhD in the 1980's, he became a professor of education at the University of Illinois, wrote 15 books, and served as an advisor to Chicago Mayor William Daley.  As Daley told the New York Times recently, "He's done a lot of good things in this city and nationally...  This is 2008.  People make mistakes.  You judge a person by his whole life."

In 1995, Bill Ayers was part of a team that helped create the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, an education reform project that worked with half of Chicago's public schools.  Barack Obama, then working as an attorney and law school professor, was elected chairman of the eight-member board of the CAC.  The board included individuals of diverse political backgrounds, including Ray Romero, the President of Ameritech; Stanley Ikenberry, the former President of the University of Illinois; and Republican Arnold Weber, who had served in the Nixon White House.

    Arnold Weber

Arnold Weber-- Republican.  Donated to John McCain.  Worked with William Ayers

In their best efforts to portray Barack as out of the mainstream, some on the right have tried characterizing the Chicago Annenberg Challenge as a dangerous fringe organization.  What they do not discuss is the fact that the CAC was funded by a foundation belonging to Walter Annenberg, the billionaire Republican philanthropist who served as Richard M. Nixon's ambassador to the U.K.  Annenberg and his wife, Leonore, gave the CAC $50 million in the 90's.

The Annenbergs-- Republicans.  Bankrolled William Ayers with $50 million

But Walter and Leonore weren't just giving money to educational foundations started by William Ayers.  They were also giving hundreds of thousands of dollars to the Republican National Committee and various other Republican groups, as well as to a whole host of Republican candidates, including the following:

    • George W. Bush       $4000
    • Mitt Romney       $5000
    • Strom Thurmond       $1000
    • Fred Thompson       $500
    • Rick Santorum       $3000

    Santorum

Rick Santorum-- former Republican Senator.  Received $3000 from Ayers' backers.

Why would billionaire Republican philanthropists give millions of dollars to a program that was working with William Ayers?  Why would George W., Mitt Romney, Fred Thompson and all those other Republicans accept money from the people who were funding this William Ayers-associated group?  Why won't McCain discuss these connections between the Republican Party and Ayers?

Here's the icing on the cake: just yesterday, the McCain campaign put out a press release bragging about the fact that Leonore Annenberg has endorsed him for president.  Yes, you heard it-- a McCain backer bankrolled William Ayers with millions of dollars.

More icing: You know that Republican Arnold Weber I mentioned earlier?  The one that served on the board of the CAC with Barack?  Not only did he work with William Ayers in the 90's, he has also donated at least $1000 to the McCain campaign.  That's right-- McCain is accepting money from associates of William Ayers, and so far has not given the money back.

I'm feeling a little cheated.  Months ago I was promised an October surprise.  It's already October 9th, and all I've heard is that Barack knows a guy who's been working with McCain supporters and Republicans since the mid 90's.

Barack Obama - Hope or Hate? You Decide. (Let it Be by Dolores Keane)
